Kazincbarcika in the winter

I grew up in this yellow house, at the end of this street, which logically would have been the beginning of the street, for that is the first house of it you see when you arrive to the city.

Greetings from Hungary

Just a very quick post to say hello to you from Hungary! I am in and around my hometown, doing a lot of things: performing, listening to others concerts, taking big walks, hiking, taking photos, enjoy time with my family, meeting old friends, studying, eating nice food, then I go to Romania and probably to Slovakia, and to a dance camp... which also means almost no internet for me until end of July...

I set my blogs on autopilot, so you will have a few pictures in the meantime, but I will not be able to respond if you write something nice to me...

Have a wonderful summer everyone!!!
Csodálatos nyarat kívánok mindenkinek!!!

Hospital

After the churches of my hometown (I might have more pics of them, and the bigger Protestant church is still missing), another institution: the hospital. One of the most dominant buildings of the town, I would say the valley. Built in the end of the 60's and was renovated a few years ago. Before these colors it was ugly grey, now it's much nicer.

A 60-as évek végén építették, és néhány évvel ezelőtt felújították. Azelőtt ronda szürke volt, most sokkal szebb.

Orthodox Church

Again a picture of the Orthodox Church in my hometown. I think this is one of the nicest buildings in Kazincbarcika
Még egy kép városom görögkeleti templomáról. Szerintem ez az egyik legszebb épület Kazincbarcikán.

The village

In the village part of Barcika (say barhtzeekah - well, we call my town just shortly so, instead of the long Kazincbarcika that you dear blog reader, might not even be able to pronounce anyway :-), there are still a very few nice old houses like these ones:
Barcika falusi részében (nos, mi csak így hívjuk a városomat, a hosszú Kazincbarcika helyett) még akad néhány régi szép ház, mint ezek:

After the red-white-green bench now there shouldn't be any questions about the Hungarian colors and the patroitism of Hungarians :-)

Kazincbarcika, new Catholic church

I am proud of my little hometown Kazincbarcika!
Büszke vagyok kis városomra, Kazincbarcikára!

In the next posts, I will give you more reasons for that, now I wanna show you the new Catholic church they are building. According to the plans, it should be ready for consercation these days.

The very next big event in the city has not much to do with religion though: it's the World Masters Weightlifting Championships between Aug. 25th - Sept. 1st.
A város következő nagy eseménye azonban nem az egyházakhoz kapcsolódik: Masters Súlyemelő Világbajnokság lesz aug. 25 és szept. 1. között.

Kazincbarcika, Pollack Mihály út

I try something now in a few posts, because some of my readers, visitors understand English, others Hungarian and I guess it will be easier if I make simply the texts bi-lingual, instead of creating double posts in my blogs.

That's a very characterisic place in my hometown, the "Pollack".

The street, with great spaces between the apartment houses, which give plenty of possibilities for kids to play (oh, I was playing there so much!), was named after Mihaly Pollack who was the most eminent neo—classic architect of Central and Eastern Europe in the first half of 19th century. He worked in Pest and his chief achievement is the Hungarian National Museum (1837).
A "Pollack" a varosnak igen jellegzetes resze.

Igazabol egy utca, igen szellosen elrendezett berhazakkal, koztuk rengeteg hellyel, ami nagyszeru teret ad a gyerekeknek. Mennyit is jatszottam arrafele!
A nevado Pollack Mihaly pedig (ha valaki szamara nem lenne ismeros a nev) a reformkor leghiresebb, Kozep- es Kelet-Europaban legjelentosebb neo-klasszicista epitesze volt, a Nemzeti Muzeum tervezoje.

To the right is my old school and it bears the same name:
A kep jobbszelen a regi iskolam, amely szinten ezt a nevet viseli:

And so we get back to the main street of the city.
Ezzel vissza is erkezunk a varos foutcajara.

Kazincbarcika, Mátyás király út

This is the other end of the street where I grew up. In the communist era, when I was a child, it was named after Lajos Szabó (Szabó Lajos út), but I never knew who was that person.

Today the street is called Mátyás király út which means "Matthias King Street". Isn't it much nicer?

If you look at this picture very closely, in the middle, at the very end of the street, there is a yellowish spot - that was our house...

Oh, how I loved to walk or bike under those trees!

Autumn lights and colors

Still in my little hometown, Kazincbarcika, last year...

This time something modern: these kind of houses were built in the 70's, 80's.

Hungary vs Sweden

Yesterday Hungary beat the Swedish national hockey team!!! That's quite something: before, Hungary hasn't even made one single score against the Nordic giants.

The historical took place in this Arena in Budapest

I thought this picture would be a funny illustration to the big moment :-)

Bench

A bench at the train station of my hometown in Hungary, Kazincbarcika. The colors of the city happen to be the same as are the Swedish national colors where I am living now.

My brother, when he was a teenager, was playing hockey for a while in the Kazincbarcika team, under blue-yellow...

Our old house

Last autumn, I visited the house where I spent my childhood.

It's popular to decorate the common areas in apartment houses.

In our old house

That's what I would see as a child from the room I shared with my brother. The green house was built in the 60's, just as ours. And when they were building the white one, I would play there at the construction site with my friends.

The house in the back of the picture also wasn't there: as a child, I was watching the sunset in that direction, way beyond the city, above the hills...

From our old house

View from our kitchen. Again, I was a child when they built the other house and planted the trees...
Before that, from this window, I could see way accross the valley of Sajo river.

A pond

This little lake is in my hometown. It's an artificial one, I remember when they were digging the big hole.

In the summer, one could row around with a boat, and in the winter, it was one of my favorite places: great for ice skating!
